Who this is for
College students sometimes hit a course that does not match how they learned in high school: a first statistics class, a writing-intensive seminar or a course with a large exam and little feedback along the way. Adults come back to learning for different reasons: preparing for graduate-school entrance exams, finishing a degree, changing careers or simply wanting a skill. Both groups benefit from private, flexible, respectful instruction that treats them as the adults they are.
What we can help with
- Coursework support: working through lecture notes, problem sets and readings to understand them.
- Writing: structuring papers, developing an argument and revising for clarity.
- Test preparation, most notably LSAT prep for law-school applicants.
- Career skills through our modern-skills tracks: Introduction to AI, web development and personal finance.
- Study habits for people returning to school after time away.
We have a particular strength in writing, reading and structured test preparation. For highly specialized upper-level courses we will be straightforward about whether we are the right tutor. That honesty saves you money.
How a plan comes together
We start with a conversation about your goal and timeline. If you are in a course, bring the syllabus, a recent assignment and any returned work. If you have a skill goal, we describe what you want to be able to do in three months, then work backward. Each session is live and one-on-one, we check your understanding as we go, and you receive session notes so you can pick up exactly where you left off.
Adult learners often need flexible hours. We schedule evenings and weekends where available and use online sessions by default to save commuting time, so a lunch break or an hour after work can become a real session.
Questions to ask before hiring any tutor
Whoever you choose, ask how the tutor will find out what you already know, how progress will be measured, and what happens if the match is not working. Ask whether the tutor will tell you honestly when a goal is unrealistic in the time available. You should also know the price, the cancellation terms and the format before the first session. Ours are on this site: one flat rate, a published refund policy and a diagnostic at the start.
Adults sometimes worry about feeling behind or out of practice. That is common and nothing to be embarrassed about; we work at your level without judgment. A good tutoring relationship feels like working with a patient, well-prepared collaborator. You should leave each session knowing something you did not know and what to do before the next one. If that is not happening, say so early. Good tutors want that feedback.
Format, price and location
College and adult tutoring is $100 per hour. Sessions are online by default. In-person sessions are available at your home or a public spot across Manhattan, Westchester, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, with a travel fee agreed before booking.
